The Central government has made the decision to extend an additional 75 lakh Ujjwala connections, increasing the total number of beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana to 10.35 crore. This announcement was made by Union Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur following a Union cabinet meeting on Tuesday.

In a move that brings significant relief to consumers, Minister Thakur also revealed a reduction in the price of domestic cooking gas cylinders. Currently priced at ₹1,103 for a 14.2-kg LPG cylinder in New Delhi, the new price starting from Wednesday will be ₹903.

PMUY Yojana, the Central Government is providing financial assistance of Rs 1600 to all the women of BPL and APL ration card holding families. Through Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana 2023, the Central Government is providing LPG gas connections to all the poor APL and BPL families of the country.  To apply under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, the beneficiary women should be 18 years or more, only then she can avail the benefits of this scheme.

Latest Update :-The government has approved a subsidy of Rs 200 on cylinders under Ujjwala Yojana on 30 August, and they are set to add 75 lakh new LPG connections.

For Ujjwala Yojana beneficiaries, the price is reduced to ₹703 after factoring in the ₹200 per cylinder subsidy. Ujjwala recipients will enjoy complimentary connections, including the first cylinder, free of charge. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s significant offering to women on the occasions of Onam and Raksha Bandhan includes a ₹200 reduction in the cost of domestic LPG cylinders for all consumers. Union Minister Anurag Thakur highlighted that in 2014, only 14.5 crore citizens had domestic LPG connections, but today, that number has surged to 33 crore.This will increase the total number of beneficiaries under PMUY from 9.6 crore to 10.35 crore.

Eligibility for Pradhan Mantri Ujjawala Yojana

• The applicant must be a women.

• The applicant’s age should be 18 years.

• To be eligible for this scheme, the applicant should fall under the below  poverty line.

• The applicant must possess a bank account.

• Applicants should not already possess an existing LPG connection.

Documents required for Pradhan Mantri Ujjawala Yojana

• BPL certificate issued by Municipality President (Urban Area)/ Panchayat Pradhan (Rural Area)
•  Identity Proof (Aadhar Card or Voter ID Card)
•  BPL ration card
•  Aadhaar number of all family members

•  Caste certificate

•  Jan Dhan Bank Account Statement / Bank Passbook

• The interested woman who  wants to apply in Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana can obtain the application form from official website.
• Once obtained, accurately complete the application form by providing requested details such as Aadhaar card number, mobile number, name, address, etc.

• Next, attach all required documents to the application form and submit it to the nearest gas agency.
• After verifying your application and documents by the gas agency officer, your LPG gas connection will be issued within 10 to 15 days.
