Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin is set to inaugurate the ‘Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Thittam’ Scheme on 15 September 2023 .MK Stalin, serving as both the DMK president and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, will begin  the initiative in Kancheepuram, the hometown of the party’s icon figure and former chief minister CN Annadurai.The launch of this welfare scheme has been kept at a time to coincide with the birth anniversary of the late Dravidian icon.

In this year’s state budget, a significant amount of Rs 7,000 crore was allocated for this scheme, marking it as the Tamil Nadu government’s most substantial investment in a social welfare program.

The objective of this scheme is to grant a monthly financial aid of Rs 1,000 to 1.06 crore deserving women who head families. Along with financial support to women, the scheme also pays tribute to the legacy of former CM C.N. Annadurai, as it coincides with his birth anniversary.Recently, M.K. Stalin announced that the state has earmarked Rs 7,000 crore for this program.Approximately 1.63 crore applications received, a total of 1.06 crore have met the eligibility criteria, he stated.

To keep beneficiaries informed and updated about the scheme ,the government will utilise SMS notifications.The financial aid will be directly transferred into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries and with the help of ATM cards the eligible women can withdraw the amount whenever they need.Under this scheme women and transgender individuals above 21 years of age are eligible.

Eligibility for Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Thittam Scheme

The following criteria has to be fulfilled to get benefits under  Kalaignar Magalir Urimai  Thogai Thittam Scheme:-

• The Women Beneficiary should be a Permanent Resident of Tamil Nadu.
•  Women Beneficiaries Age should be Above 21 Years.
• The Annual Family Income of Women Beneficiary should not be more than Rs. 2,50,000/- per year.
• Land Holding of Women Beneficiary Family should be not  more than 5 Acre of wetland or 10 Acre of dry land.
• The Annual Electricity Consumption of Women Beneficiary Family should be below 3600 Units.

Ineligibility Conditions for Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Thittam Scheme

Here are the conditions that render a person ineligible for the Tamil Nadu Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam Scheme:

• If the annual family income of the woman’s family exceeds Rs. 2,50,000 per year.
• Any family member is an income tax payer.
• The applicant or any family member is an employee or pensioner of any of the following organizations:Central Government,State Government,Public Sector Undertaking,Bank,Local Bodies,Co-operative Institutions.          
• If the applicant holds any of the following elected positions: Member of Parliament,Member of Legislative Assembly, Chairman of District Panchayat,Councillor of District Panchayat , Chairman of Panchayat Union,Councillor of Panchayat Union, President of Village.

How to Apply for Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Thittam Scheme

Steps to Apply offline

The following procedure has to be followed to apply offline for Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Thittam Scheme:

• The eligible beneficiaries can register for the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai  Thogai Thittam Scheme by visiting the nearest Fair Price Shop or Ration Shop in their area.
• Initially, women beneficiaries will complete the registration process at the Ration Shop/Fair Price Shop using Application Registration Forms.
• The Volunteers at the shops will assist the women beneficiaries in filling out the Registration Form for the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Thittam Scheme.
• Once the application form is completed accurately, the Application Form will be submitted to the officials present at the Ration Shops.
• The received Application Forms will then be forwarded to the Implementing Department.
• The relevant officials will review the Application Form for the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Thittam Scheme along with the accompanying documents.
• After verification, the monthly financial assistance of Rs. 1,000 will start being transferred to the bank accounts of women beneficiaries from 15th September onwards.
• The Registration Camps for the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai Thittam Scheme will be conducted from 24-07-2023 to 16-08-2023.
